Everything you need to know about laser skin resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing

This week, the Southern Cosmetics team is heading to Sydney for the Cutera University Australia conference from March 23 to 24. This exclusive event will see some of the industry’s most innovative practitioners come together to discuss all things laser. And guess who’s speaking? That’s right, Dr Jenny and Dr Nick have been invited to take to the stage.

To coincide with the event, this month’s blog covers everything you need to know about laser skin resurfacing.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

As you may have guessed, laser skin resurfacing involves using a laser to gently remove the surface layers of the skin. This allows new skin to form from the deeper skin cells within the hair follicles.

Using this technique, we can treat a range of skin concerns. Skin will appear fresher and more radiant post-treatment.

At Southern Cosmetics, we use the Cutera Pearl and Fotona TwinLight Fractional Resurfacing platforms to perform skin resurfacing treatments.

Who is it for?

Laser skin resurfacing is great for patients with imperfections related to sun damage and ageing. It works wonders on wrinkles, scarring, and other blemishes. The treatment can also vastly improve skin texture.

Patients with light-to-medium skin tones tend to respond best to laser skin resurfacing.

Does it hurt?

No, the treatment should not be painful. We apply a topical numbing cream to the area before the treatment begins. This helps reduce any discomfort.

During the treatment, it’s not uncommon to feel warmth, but it should not be painful.

When will I see a change and how long will it last?

The fantastic news is most patients can see a noticeable improvement in their skin within one week! Your skin may also be red and/ or slightly swollen for a couple of days after the treatment, and it may peel. However, remember, it will all be worth it for that beautiful fresh-faced look!

The length of time the results last depends on many factors, but using quality, medical-grade skincare can help prolong the effects.

How many sessions are usually needed?

You can see noticeable results after one or two treatments. It’s best to space them out six weeks apart.
