Our dermal therapist, Dawn Collado, is highly regarded, not just for the quality of her work, but for her professional, friendly nature. In this article, we find out a bit more about Dawn, why she travelled down this road and her passions outside of work.
Why did you decide to become a dermal therapist?
My background is in beauty therapy, which I really loved. When I moved over to Australia in 2002, I worked with a couple of doctors who had a laser machine. They asked me if I wanted to train up to use it and I really enjoyed the study involved.
That really sparked an interest in going back to university to study science. I’ve always really loved being a problem-solver and loved the more serious side of skincare as well. I completed my degree in 2009.
What do you enjoy most about your job at Southern Cosmetics?
I love the people. The people I work with are amazing and we have such a lovely team. Everyone’s really laid-back and we have a lovely professional respect for each other.
We’re so lucky with the clients we have as well. They really make you feel so happy about coming into work.
What’s your favourite treatment to perform?
Vascular Laser. It’s so much fun and so satisfying because you actually see it working straight away. It’s that instant gratification.
I also really love the Pastelle Q-Switched Nd: YAG Laser. We’ve had the IPL a long time, and it does things well, but what it leaves behind, the Pastelle picks up. It’s really nice to have that addition because it means we can get that slightly better result.
What’s your favourite treatment to have done?
I love the Laser Genesis. For my skin, it gives it a nice glow. It’s like a party treatment!
What are your hobbies outside work?
I have two very demanding hobbies (my kids), but other than them, I love yoga and anything to do with wellness and health. I like to get out in nature when I can.
Favourite TV show?
I’m a massive binge watcher. We just finished watching the Bodyguard and that was incredible.
