Medi-facials & Chemical Peels

What are Medi-facials and Chemical Peels?

Medi-facials are facials that use medical grade skincare ingredients, but usually do not cause the skin to flake or peel. They are generally milder than chemical peels, but they will still improve the overall appearance of your skin, and often leave your skin feeling tighter and more radiant, but without any downtime. They are perfect for people wanting a facial treatment that still delivers results, or prior to a special event to give you a real glow.

Chemical peels involve the use of a stronger chemical solution to assist in shedding of the damaged outer layers of the skin. Chemical peels enhance the skin’s appearance in several ways and assist with a vast range of skin concerns, including ageing, acne, pigmentation, uneven skin texture and tone. It’s an effective treatment for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars or freckles and age spots. Overall, the look and feel of your skin will improve after a chemical peel.

How do Chemical Peels work?

Chemical peels exfoliate by using substances such as alpha-hydroxy acids (fruit acids) or beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic acid) to help improve the skin’s appearance. During the treatment, a solution is applied to the skin that causes it to gradually tighten and exfoliate, revealing the newer skin underneath.

What type of chemical peels do you perform at Southern Cosmetics?

We offer a range of chemical peels. Your Doctor or Dermal Therapist will be able to recommend the best option for your skin.

How do chemical peels feel?

At Southern Cosmetics, our goal is to make your experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. With our chemical peels, there is little or no discomfort, and minimal downtime.

When will you notice a change after a chemical peel?

You should have a radiant glow after your treatment, but you may also experience temporary redness and peeling afterwards as your skin rejuvenates. The healing period varies depending on the intensity of the chemical peel and your skin type (please ask us for an indication at your consultation). If you’re concerned about redness, talk to us about whether you can use mineral makeup to cover it.

How many sessions are usually required?

Usually, a series of chemical peels is required (often it’s four to six treatments, spaced one month apart). Peels can be combined with other dermal therapies to achieve your goals. Popular choices include microdermabrasion, laser treatment and injectable treatments.

Why choose Southern Cosmetics for your medi-facial or chemical peel?

Before having a chemical peel, it’s important to seek professional advice about whether you are the right candidate for the treatment. That’s where we come in. At Southern Cosmetics, we are a Cosmetic Medical Clinic, and our staff have completed tertiary training in the field.
