What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels involve the use of a chemical solution to remove damaged outer layers of the skin. Chemical peels enhance the skin’s appearance in several ways and assist with a vast range of skin concerns, including ageing, acne, pigmentation, uneven skin texture and tone. It’s an effective treatment for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars or freckles and age spots. Overall, the look and feel of your skin will improve after a chemical peel.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels exfoliate by using substances such as alpha-hydroxy acids (fruit acids) or beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic acid) to help improve the skin’s appearance. During the treatment, a solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate, revealing the new skin underneath.

What type of chemical peels do you perform at Southern Cosmetics?

We offer a range of chemical peels. Your dermal therapist will be able to recommend the best option for your skin. The list includes, but is not limited to, the following:

The Skincare Company Peels

Complexion Perfection: This clinically controlled chemical peel is formulated with potent antioxidants to fight free radical damage. It also contains botanical plant extracts specifically chosen for their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and calming properties.

Deep and Meaningful: Enriched with potent botanical extracts, this peel effectively lightens and improves superficial pigmentation. It also contains skin restorative ingredients to boost skin immunity, promote new collagen production, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Plump and Restore: Another popular choice from The Skincare Company, the Plump and Restore is enriched with powerful antioxidant botanical extracts to soothe skin, brighten skin tone and fight free radical damage. Hyaluronic acid and vitamin B attract and hold moisture in the skin, whilst protecting it from environmental damage.

Dermaceutic Peels

The Mask Peel: For oily skin, dilated pores and excess sebum. It purifies the epidermis, tightens pores, brightens a dull complexion, regulates oily skin and dilated pores. Will help prevent and treat acne.

The Milk Peel: For the appearance of fine lines, dull complexion and loss of tone. Restores a radiant complexion, stimulates the epidermis, regulates oily skin and dilated pores, improves fine lines and wrinkles, evens skin tone, and boosts the effectiveness of daily skin care practices.

The Mela Peel: For the appearance of pigment spots, epidermal melasma and post-inflammatory pigmentation. Reduces the appearance of melasma and pigment spots, promotes homogeneous complexion, improves skin radiance and brightness.

Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

Unlike other dermal therapies treatments, Obagi Blue Peel Radiance offers a unique blend of acids to provide a gentle but effective peel, resulting in tighter, smoother, brighter-looking skin after just one treatment. It can also be used to improve conditions such as acne, scarring, photo-damage and melasma. The icing on the cake is that there is virtually no peeling with this treatment unlike other dermal therapies, so you can pop in during a lunch break and walk out looking radiant and refreshed!

Osmosis Retinaldehyde Infusions

Retinaldehyde is a Vitamin A derivative that promotes cellular turnover and helps reduce the signs of ageing. With the Osmosis Retinaldehyde Facial Infusion, our non-chemical peel, you’ll see results immediately and there is no peeling or downtime.

Galvanic Facial Infusions

Galvanic Infusions introduce serums 400 times deeper into the skin than a hand-applied product via an extremely safe and mild electric current. During the treatment, the skin is treated with a variety of vitamins, minerals and skin rejuvenation ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C. These enriching ingredients reach the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, which is the main barrier to serum transport.

Synergie AHA/BHA Peels

We offer a Synergie Professional peel for every skin type, even the most sensitive! Your dermal therapist will tailor the treatment to your needs, selecting the strength of the active ingredients accordingly. For example, we may recommend a Lactic Acide Peel for sun-damaged skin or minor breakouts, a Salicylic Acid Peel for enlarged pores and blackheads, or a Gessner Peel with Kojic Acid for more severe sun damage, pigmentation and ageing concerns. Ongoing treatments can increase skin hydration, improve dullness, reduce breakouts, decrease the visibility of pores and lighten pigmentation.

How do chemical peels feel?

At Southern Cosmetics, our goal is to make your experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. With our chemical peels, there is little or no discomfort, and minimal downtime.

When will you notice a change after a chemical peel?

You should have a radiant glow after your treatment, but you may also experience temporary redness and peeling afterwards as your skin rejuvenates. The healing period varies depending on the intensity of the chemical peel and your skin type (please ask us for an indication at your consultation). If you’re concerned about redness, talk to us about whether you can use mineral makeup to cover it.

How many sessions are usually required?

Usually, a series of chemical peels is required (often it’s four to six treatments, spaced one month apart). Peels can be combined with other dermal therapies to achieve your goals. Popular choices include microdermabrasion, laser treatment and injectable treatments.

Why choose Southern Cosmetics for your chemical peel?

Before having a chemical peel, it’s important to seek professional advice about whether you are the right candidate for the treatment. That’s where we come in. At Southern Cosmetics, we are a cosmetic medical clinic, and our staff have completed tertiary training in the field. We tailor our treatments to your needs and can explain whether a series of chemical peels could help you achieve your skin goals.
