Leg Veins

Spider veins are small clusters of red, blue or purple veins that appear in the skin on the thighs, calves and ankles. It’s estimated that at least half of all women and many men are affected by this common cosmetic problem. Reticular veins are larger, darker leg veins that tend to bulge slightly, but are not severe enough to require surgical treatment. Varicose veins are abnormally swollen or dilated veins. These usually require surgery or EVLT (endovenous laser therapy). Please note we do not treat Varicose veins at Southern Cosmetics.

In some people, spider veins become noticeable in their early 20s. For others, the veins may not become obvious until they reach their 40s. A number of factors may contribute to the development of spider veins in the legs, including:

  • Heredity
  • Pregnancy
  • Hormonal shifts
  • Weight gain
  • Occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing

At Southern Cosmetics, we perform an assessment of your veins and establish appropriate treatment.

How we can help

Sclerotherapy

In this treatment, a chemical solution is injected into each affected vein, causing the vein to collapse and fade from view over a few weeks. There are several available sclerosing solutions, which are suitable for different sized veins. This treatment requires no anesthesia and is usually performed in an outpatient setting.

Laser leg vein treatments

With this method, pulses of laser light are directed at the vein, which causes a heating and coagulation effect. This eventually destroys the vessel and it is later reabsorbed by your body. We use the Cutera Nd:YAG vascular laser or the Fotona Nd:YAG laser system and there is minimal discomfort with this procedure, other than a mild stinging sensation is felt. There is usually no discomfort in the recovery phase.
