Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing involves using a laser to gently remove the surface layers of the skin, enabling new skin to form from the deeper layers of the skin. The result? Fresher, healthier looking skin with fewer blemishes and more collagen.

What type of Laser Skin Resurfacing equipment do you use at Southern Cosmetics?

We use the Cutera Pearl and Fotona TwinLight Fractional Resurfacing platforms for our laser skin resurfacing treatments.

Cutera Pearl

The Cutera Pearl is designed to improve imperfections caused by sun damage and ageing on the face, including around the eyes and mouth. It can help with wrinkles, scarring, sun damage, poor skin texture, large pores and blemishes.

How does the Cutera Pearl Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment work?

The laser uses heat to create tiny wounds in the top layers of the skin. Sun-damaged tissue is removed, while the process stimulates healthy, new skin to grow.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

The best results are seen on patients with light-to-medium skin tones. It’s a great option for clients with ageing concerns around the eyes and mouth – areas which can be tricky to treat.

How does a treatment feel?

During the laser skin resurfacing treatment, you may feel a series of fast, hot pinches. To alleviate the discomfort, we apply a topical numbing cream to the skin 45 minutes before the treatment.

When will you notice a change?

It’s common to experience redness and swelling for 2-3 days after the treatment. This is followed by dry skin and some flaking or peeling. Patients recover in about four to five days and most notice improvements within a week.

How many sessions are usually required?

Most patients only need one or two laser skin resurfacing treatments to see results. We usually recommend having these performed six weeks apart.
How long will the results of the Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment last?
It depends on how well you look after your skin post-treatment. You can extend the effects by protecting your skin against the sun’s harmful rays and following an antioxidant-rich skincare regimen.

Fotona TwinLight

The Fotona TwinLight laser can treat a “fraction” of the surface of the skin, leaving a pool of healthy untouched skin to aid healing. We can combine ablative and non-ablative techniques to achieve optimal results with the TwinLight.

How does the treatment work?

The deep heating effect of Fotona’s Nd:YAG laser beam helps rejuvenate and stimulate the skin. Meanwhile, the Er:YAG beam removes older, damaged skin and helps the body to form fresh skin.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

What’s really great about this laser skin resurfacing treatment is that it’s suitable for most skin types and tones! If you want dramatic rejuvenation effects, without surgery or aggressive chemicals, this could be the right treatment for you! We use the Fotona TwinLight for everything from light touch-ups to deep collagen remodeling.

How does a treatment feel?

We use a topical numbing cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. During the Fotona TwinLight laser skin resurfacing treatment, you might experience a warm sensation, but it won’t be painful.

When will you notice a change?

Many patients feel as though they’ve been sunburnt after a Fotona TwinLight treatment. This is totally normal. You may notice redness and swelling for a few days or longer if it was a more aggressive treatment. Your skin may also peel and crusts may form for up to a week after treatment.

After about a week, the remodeling process will begin in the deeper layers of the skin. You’ll start to see an improvement in the texture and tone of your skin. For ageing concerns, it may take from 6 weeks up to six months to see the full impact of the laser skin resurfacing treatment.

How many sessions are usually required?

Most patients usually require one to three treatments. We generally recommend having these performed six weeks apart.

How long will the results of the Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment last?

Again, it depends on several factors. For optimal results, you may need to have a maintenance treatment once a year, particularly if your primary concern is pigmentation. However, some patients may only need a light chemical peel to maintain that fresh skin look.
