DermaPen Skin Needling

What is DermaPen Skin Needling?

DermaPen Skin Needling is an advanced, collagen-inducing  treatment that improves skin texture and aids in the appearance of scarring. It’s used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks, surgical and traumatic scars, large pores and sagging skin. If you’re looking to rejuvenate and plump up your skin, DermaPen Skin Needling could be the right treatment for you.

How does DermaPen Skin Needling work?

We use a sterile, single-use, pen-like device with adjustable fine surgical steel microneedles to create hundreds of tiny punctures in the skin. As these microneedles penetrate the upper (epidermis) and lower (dermis) layers of the skin at targeted and specific depths, they cause controlled microscopic wounds and pinpoint bleeding.

The process encourages the body’s own wound healing response, which results in an increase in activity of fibroblasts (collagen-producing cells) and improved skin texture. It also creates fine channels, which allow for greater delivery of nutrients deep into the skin.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

DermaPen Skin Needling can be performed on almost every skin type, effectively treating a range of conditions without destroying the skin’s integrity. However, if you have aggressive cystic acne, excessively sunburnt or damaged skin, we may recommend an alternative treatment during your skin consultation.

How does a treatment feel?

No anaesthetic is required for superficial treatments. You may feel a tolerable prickling sensation and a vibrating effect as the pen glides over the skin. For deeper treatments, we apply a topical anaesthetic cream prior to the treatment to alleviate discomfort. All you’ll feel is a mild vibrating sensation and light pressure.

When will you notice a change after DermaPen Skin Needling?

You can expect some redness and swelling for the first 24 to 48 hours, and it’s normal for your skin to feel warm and tight. If scarring is being treated, localised superficial bruising may occur.

A hydrating moisturiser or balm is recommended to aid the flaking of surface skin cells and lessen dry skin for five to seven days after the treatment.

Results may vary from person to person, but typically, you’ll notice an improvement after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after several sessions.

How many sessions are usually required?

We usually recommend a course of three to six treatments of DermaPen Skin Needling for optimal results. These are usually spaced four to six weeks apart.
