LaseMD

LaseMD™ Ultra

Introducing LaseMD Ultra. A brand new non-ablative treatment now available at Southern Cosmetics.

What is LaseMD Ultra?

LaseMD Ultra is a non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment using a powerful platform that can deliver customizable treatments depending on your skin concerns.

The laser works by creating thermal zones in the deeper layers of the skin with minimal disruption to the surface. This means that the downtime from LaseMD Ultra treatment is relatively short, yet it is more powerful than older resurfacing options such as Fraxel.

The LaseMD Ultra creates an improvement in skin tone and texture and will remove most surface skin imperfections such as freckles and sunspots. More aggressive treatments can help with skin texture and scarring.

LaseMD Ultra can also be used to treat:

  • Age spots
  • Sunspots
  • Freckles
  • Actinic Keratoses
  • Other benign pigmented lesions

Treatment options:

  • Superficial
  • Medium Depth
  • Deep

For best results, a series of 2-3 treatments is recommended.

The procedure is generally very well tolerated. Before the treatment is performed, numbing cream is applied for 30-45 minutes depending on depth of treatment. For a more superficial treatment, numbing may not be required.

1. Superficial Treatment

This is ideal for the younger patient with early sun damage or ageing changes, or who just wants to improve the evenness of their complexion and their skin tone.

It can also be used for older patients who only want to have minimal downtime.

Typical downtime is 2-3 days

  • Mild redness only
  • Skin may be dry and feels rough like sandpaper for a few days
  • There may be mild flaking

2. Medium Depth treatment

The medium depth treatment is suitable for anyone with signs of sun damage or ageing who wants to improve their skin’s appearance and texture.

Down time 3-5 days

  • Redness 2-3 days
  • Some darkening of pigment or general bronzing (a tanned appearance)
  • Dry, flaky skin for a few days after redness resolves

3. Deep treatment

Can be used to treat more severe sun damage, surface pigmentation and general skin texture, including acne scarring and wrinkles.

Can also be used to treat actinic keratoses (rough red spots caused by sun damage).

Down time 5-7 days

  • Redness 2-3 days
  • Darkening of pigment and dry skin
  • Skin becomes flaky and more prominent peeling

After the treatment, we recommend the use of a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser such as Bepanthen or Cicaplast and Sunscreen. Make up can generally be applied 1-2 days after treatment, depending on depth.

Active products such as Retinols, Vitamin C and Exfoliants should be ceased until the skin has healed.

As well as treating the face, the Lase MDUltra can also be used to treat the neck, décolletage and hands, or other areas of sun damage.

The LaseMD™ Ultra can also be used to treat the scalp to stimulate hair growth if the hair is thinning. This may be combined with growth serums or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).

Is there down time?

As mentioned, there will be some initial heat, and building erythema. This will peak within the first 24 hours and generally be accompanied with some swelling. You can resume physical activities that day, however we do recommend refraining from anything that will cause any more heat to the area. The redness and swelling will continue to fade in that 24 – 48-hour period. You can wear make-up (we recommend mineral) from the day after your treatment.

After day two, your skin will continue to feel very dry and develop a sandpaper like texture. It will feel rough and dry however in regards to onlookers, it will look a little dull and even a little bit bronzed, but for the most part it will be very discrete. As the skin exfoliates over the next 5 – 7 days, you will start to see fresher, brighter and more even skin. The severity and length of downtime will also depend on the intensity of your treatment as well as internal factors that may affect healing.

How long until I see results from my LaseMD treatment?

After day 7 when the skin has exfoliated you will see superficial improvements, however changes in collagen will continue for months after your treatment.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my LaseMD treatment?

First and foremost, we start with a consultation to determine if LaseMD is the best course of action for your skin and your concerns. From there it will be determined whether you will benefit from a stand-alone treatment or as a part of a course. All of this will dictate how we prepare the skin, when performing any treatment, we are creating a controlled injury to the skin, a lot of that control comes from uniform healing and this may require pre and post topical care of the skin.
