During the summer months, your skin can end up looking dry and lackluster due to increased sun exposure and prolonged periods in air-conditioned environments. In this article, we share our top tips to keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated.

Exfoliate

It might sound counterproductive, but removing dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin is one of the most important steps towards achieving a beautiful, radiant complexion. Exfoliating allows your skin to better absorb moisturisers and hydrating products. Use a gentle exfoliating product or invest in a treatment such as a microdermabrasion.

Cleanse

When it comes to cleansing, avoid harsh soaps and products that may strip your skin of its natural oils. Any product that leaves your skin feeling tight and like it’s about to crack is bad news, even if you have acne. Avoid washing your face in scalding hot water, as this will also dry out your skin and strip it of natural oils. Lukewarm water is best. Lastly, be sure to pat your face dry rather than rubbing it with a towel.

Moisturise

When choosing a facial moisturiser, it’s important to know what you’re trying to achieve and which products might help you kick goals sooner rather than later. Serums often come loaded with enzymes, vitamins and lipids and are a great option for those wishing to add extra hydration to their skincare regimen. Use an SPF moisturiser during the day and be sure to give your skin time to absorb the product before applying makeup. Don’t forget to pay special attention to the delicate skin around your eyes when moisturising, as this area is particularly prone to fine lines.

Spritz this summer

Facial mists are not only great for keeping you cool during the sticky summer months and for setting mineral makeup, they also hydrate and replenish your skin. Carry a facial mist in your handbag and whip it out whenever you feel like some dewy goodness and a quick hit of hydration.

Indulge in a mask

There are plenty of great hydrating masks available that will help to lock in moisture and leave your face feeling soft, nourished and refreshed. If you have oily skin, opt for a ‘non-comedogenic’ mask that won’t clog your pores.

Guzzle H2O

You’ve no doubt heard this one before, but it’s always good to have a gentle reminder about the importance of hydrating your skin from the inside out. Drinking plenty of water helps to plump up your skin and allows your body to expel toxins. Aim to consume at least 2L of water daily to keep your skin looking radiant and hydrated.
