Choosing the right makeup for your skin concern

We tailor our skincare routine to treat our skin concerns – so why don’t we apply the same rationale to our makeup?

Jane iredale’s range of clean colour cosmetics is an extension of your skincare, rather than traditional makeup. With this in mind, you can actually curate a makeup collection to care for, treat and conceal even the most specific of skin concerns. Here are our product recommendations for different skin concerns.

Makeup for acne prone skin

If your skin is prone to whiteheads, blackheads and congestion, look for products that work to balance your skin’s pH and oil production levels, like Balance Hydration Spray and Smooth Affair Primer for Oily Skin. Choose a matte foundation, like Beyond Matte Liquid Foundation and PurePressed Base Powder, as a base product with a dewy finish can heighten the appearance of acne and uneven skin texture. These particular foundations are also rich in skin loving ingredients and low on oils to ensure you aren’t further blocking your pores.

When it comes to concealing your acne, look for a concealer that will not only hide your blemishes, but will also not aggravate them by occluding the skin.

Makeup for rosacea and red skin

Working to cover redness and treat rosacea can feel counterproductive – you want the skin to be able to breathe, but you also want to conceal and correct its colour.

The solution? Clean, high performance makeup.

Clean, non-comedogenic, dermatologist and allergy tested formulas allow you to apply colour to the skin without irritating it. To cover rosacea and general redness, mix the Glow Time BB Cream with the Liquid Minerals Foundation. This combination is a dream for red skin thanks to the redness-correcting properties of the BB and the skin-loving, serum-like texture of Liquid Minerals. For best results,  gently press and roll the products onto the skin to get a full coverage finish.

Makeup for sensitive skin

The beauty (pardon the pun) of jane iredale’s clean formulas is that the entire range is suitable for sensitive skin, as the collection is entirely free from irritants. The brand itself was developed for skin that was at its most sensitive, so when you choose jane iredale products you can rest assured that your makeup will not aggravate or flare up existing sensitivities.

Makeup for oily skin

When choosing makeup for oily skin, look for ingredients with oil absorbing and controlling properties – this will help to balance out your skin’s oil production in the long term, and ensure you aren’t having to blot away oil throughout the day.

Begin with Absence Oil Control Primer, which works to absorb excess oil without affecting the moisture of the skin (remember – oil and moisture are very different!). Opt for a matte finish foundation, like the Beyond Matte Liquid Foundation, then set with your favourite powder – we love the PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation.  Finish with a mist of the Balance Hydration Spray, which works to balance the skin’s oil levels while adding moisture.

Makeup for dry skin

If your skin is dry, look for ingredients and textures designed to restore moisture and brightness to your complexion. We love the Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener and Liquid Minerals Foundation, both of which feel more like hydrating serums than traditional makeup.

Set your base using the D2O Hydration Spray, as its ylang ylang base works to hydrate and plump the skin cells. This mist is great to keep in your handbag or by your desk as it can be spritzed over the skin to give the skin a hit of hydration throughout the day.
