Ultraformer III…the What, How and Why of it all!

Answering a few frequently asked questions about one of our most requested treatments the Ultraformer III.

What is Ultraformer® III?

Ultraformer III utilises high intensity micro and macro-focused ultra-energy to target specific layers of the skin to stimulate collagen. This in turn creates a tightening and lifting to loose or sagging skin, decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can help define areas such as the jawline.

How does Ultraformer III work?

Below the superficial layer of the skin (the epidermis) we have three important layers: the papillary (superficial) dermis, the reticular (deeper) deeper dermis and the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (better known as the SMAS layer) – which connects your skin to the muscular structures below, playing an important role in support and facial movement. As we age collagen and elastic fibres within these layers age too, they get looser, less organised and degrade; the SMAS layer begins to lose its ability to support the skin, all of these internal changes can begin to manifest externally as loose or sagging skin and fine lines.

The Ultraformer III delivers energy precisely to all three layers, effectively delivering deep heat to these target tissues. In doing so a thermal injury occurs in these layers, whilst the surface layer of the epidermis remains unscathed, this injury causes collagen to contract and then over time as a result, produce and stronger collagen. This contracting of collagen is why the skin feels tight immediately after your treatment.

Collagen production in our skin begins to decline by approximately 1% per year from our mid to late twenties, and more so leading up to menopause. So you can imagine the benefits of dramatically increasing collagen production during these times of steady decline! The new collagen is stronger, and creates a more structured network within the skin, which supports, lifts and creates a more youthful appearance.

Why is this something I should get?

For suitable candidates there are multiple benefits to this treatment, including:

• Deep and superficial rejuvenation
• Tightening and lifting of previously sagging areas,
• Precise delivery that can target different areas (common areas include jowls, cheeks, neck and under the chin!)
• Ongoing results, benefits will build gradually after your treatment and peak at about 6 – 9 months post treatment.

Is it permanent?

As we have not yet found a way to stop the ageing process even the new collagen that has been stimulated will begin to decline as a part of the skins natural ageing. However this will not occur any faster than before, so it is as if you have given yourself a big running start in this process by stimulating new collagen. To create optimal results clinically it has been found that two treatments, 12 weeks apart are best and then we recommend topping up your Ultraformer treatment every 12 months to maintain the results and continue the benefits.  Think of this as your “top up” of collagen every year to counteract the ageing process.
