What is LaseMD™ Ultra?
LaseMD™ Ultra is a non-ablative fractional Thulium Laser (1927nm).  The 1927nm wavelength of the LaseMD means that the energy is preferentially absorbed by superficial targets in the skin such as sun spots, freckles, pigmented lesions and actinic keratosis. It also delivers heat to the skin, prompting collagen remodelling which targets fine lines and skin texture. It does so safely by delivering this highly focused and powerful energy in a fractionated pattern, this means that only a fraction of the skin is treated at one time. This leaves the healthy tissue surrounding the treated area to promote rapid healing, controlling the injury so that we minimise any risks.
What can LaseMD™ treat?
  • Solar Keratosis
  • Solar Lentigines
  • Ephilades / Freckles
  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Scarring
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my LaseMD™ treatment?
First and foremost we will have you come in for a consultation, to determine if LaseMD™ is the best course of action for your skin and your concerns. From there it will be discussed if you will be doing LaseMD as a stand alone treatment or as a part of a course. All of this will determine how we prep the skin, when performing any treatment we are creating a controlled injury to the skin, a lot of that control comes from uniform healing and this may require pre and post topical care of the skin.
What can I expect during my LaseMD™ treatment?
We will generally apply a topical anaesthetic cream 30 – 45 minutes prior to your treatment. From here you may feel the sensation of the handpiece moving over the skin, as well as some warmth and a tingling sensation. Often the LaseMD treatment is layered with more than one pass over the skin, the more passes the more you will feel that warmth and tingling. The treatment takes about 20 minutes, after this point that heat will increase, this is the body’s natural response to the trauma which was initially delayed by the numbing cream.

Is there downtime?
As mentioned there will be some initial heat, and building erythema. This will peak within the first 24 hours and generally be accompanied with some swelling. You can resume physical activities that day, however we do recommend refraining from anything that will cause any more heat to the area. The redness and swelling will continue to fade in that 24 – 48 hour period. You can wear make up (we recommend mineral) from the day after your treatment.
After day two your skin will continue to feel very dry and develop a sandpaper like texture. It will feel rough and dry however in regards to onlookers, it will look a little dull and even a little bit bronzed but for the most part it will be very discrete. As the skin exfoliates over the next 5 – 7 days you will start to see fresher, brighter and more even skin. The severity and length of downtime will also depend on the intensity of your treatment as well as internal factors that may effect healing.
How long until I see results from my LaseMD™ Ultra treatment?
After day seven when the skin has exfoliated you will see superficial improvements, however changes in collagen will continue for months after your treatment.
How many LaseMD™ Ultra treatments will I need?
This will depend on your concerns, your skin type and the results you want to achieve. This could be one treatment to prepare for an event or a course of treatments to tackle major concerns such as years of sun damage. You clinician will make a plan that suits both your needs and the results you want to achieve during an initial consultation.
