A new European product is about to hit Australia which has been a game-changer for facial and neck skin rejuvenation. While we can’t name the product, as it is a Schedule 4 medication, there is an associated range of Profhilo Haenkenium skin creams that complement this injectable treatment.

What is it?
It’s not a filler, nor is it a traditional “skin booster”. Rather it causes remodelling of the skin by having a direct effect on collagen and elastin production, fat cells and other biological processes in the skin. It is an injectable product containing a combination of low molecular weight and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (the same product dermal fillers are made of, but without creating any additional volume).

It targets multiple layers of the skin to restore firmness, tone and elasticity at levels that cannot be achieved through the application of skincare products onto the surface of the skin.

Once injected under the skin it spreads in a sheet to hydrate, rejuvenate and replenish the skin. This creates improvements in texture, tone and radiance. It is particularly popular in the neck, as this is an area which definitely shows our age.

How is it administered?
The initial treatment is a series of 10 injections in strategic points just under the skin in either the lower face or neck. This is then repeated 4 weeks later. For more severe ageing changes, a 3rd treatment may be recommended.

Initially, there are small lumps under the skin at the injection points, but these resolve quite quickly over the next 1-2 days.It is also recommended to use the complementary Profhilo

Maintenance treatments are then recommended at 6-12 month intervals.

Who is a suitable candidate?
Nearly everyone! Who doesn’t want hydrated, rejuvenated skin?

• 20-30s – as a preventive in those who are needing hydration and not ready for anti wrinkle treatments or dermal fillers
• 40s-60s+ – as a corrective treatment for anyone who has ageing changes in the skin
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Signs of sagging and loss of elasticity
• Menopausal skin

When will I see results?
While it doesn’t volumise like traditional fillers, it will enhance skin texture and tone, and may slow the ageing process by stimulating collagen and elastin regeneration, and it also has a beneficial effect on fat cells, which become depleted in the face as we age.

A lot of people start to see an improvement in their skin within a week of their treatment. The real results however won’t start to show until you are at the 6-8 week mark as this is the time that it takes for the body to start producing collagen and elastin which is what really makes the difference in terms of results and what you see on the surface.

Most people will notice their skin “feels” better in terms of feeling smoother and more hydrated after the first 2 treatments. There may also be some initial improvement in tone and texture which continues over time.
